Volunteer with Lee County Legal Aid Society

Lee County Legal Aid Society welcomes individuals, law firms and businesses to volunteer with us. Volunteering is an extremely satisfying way to make a difference for those less fortunate and fulfill Florida Bar requirements for pro bono hours. Together, we can make a difference!

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities that will allow anyone to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of people in Lee County each year. Here’s some of what you can help us with:

  • Fundraising
  • Event planning and management
  • Research
  • Transportation
  • Filing
  • Answering phones
  • Scheduling
  • Grant writing (qualified assistance only)
  • Internships (qualified assistance only)

Expert Legal Volunteers Needed

Lee County Legal Aid Society needs experienced attorneys to help us make our 20-minute virtual legal clinics accessible to more people in the Southwest Florida community. This critical resource supports individuals who can’t otherwise afford a paid consultation with an attorney.

Each confidential Zoom session allows a panel of qualified attorneys the unique ability to interact with potential clients before deciding whether to undertake direct pro bono representation. Please note that only attorneys who are members in good standing with Florida Bar are permitted to provide legal advice during the Self-Help appointments. Pro-bono service hours will be tracked and certified on request.

To sign up, call 239-334-6118 or email Nanci DuBois at nanci@leecountylegalaid.org.

Volunteer Opportunities for Legal Students

An excellent opportunity to gain experience and connect with other legal professionals, Lee County Legal Aid Society serves as a training ground for the law students who volunteer with us. By observing attorneys in action, giving real legal advice to real people, in real time, student volunteers gain virtual experiences in the working world while they are still in law school – an education in how an attorney listens hard for the legal problem that sometimes hides behind emotional distress.

The student also learns to proactively provide quick research on Florida Statutes and case law to the attorneys during the Zoom meetings. Students who have graduated after spending many hours learning from mentors at Lee County Legal Aid Society have all gone forth into their careers with praise for the experience gained through observation.
